City Code Inspector

Jeff Wolf is the City of Norton’s full time City Code Inspector. His office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and is located at City Hall, 301 E. Washington Street. He is responsible for the City’s planning and zoning programs, activities, and is staff liaison to the Planning Commission. He also serves as the City’s American Disabilities Act Coordinator, and oversees all building inspection and code enforcement activities.

Liability Review & Building Codes

The City Code Inspector reviews contractor liability insurance policies and reviews and approves all building permit applications. All building (International Building Code, 2006 Edition), plumbing (International Plumbing Code, 2006 Edition) and electrical (National Electrical Code, 2008 Edition) contractors performing work in the City of Norton must, before doing any such work in the City, file with the City proof of the maintenance of a liability insurance policy in the amount of $300,000 per occurrence. Such policies of insurance shall be issued by some insurance company authorized to do business in the State of Kansas and such policy shall contain all the conditions required by the laws of the State of Kansas.

Code Enforcement

The City Code Inspector is responsible for the enforcement of City codes regarding dangerous and unfit structures, health nuisances, the environmental code and violations regarding weeds and vegetation in the city limits. (International Property Maintenance Code, 2006 Edition).
