Electric Distribution

The City of Norton purchases electric power at wholesale cost and has a distribution system in place to serve the residents of the City of Norton. The system is a mix of two different system voltages, including 12470Y/ and 4160Y/2400V, and has a main substation and two secondary substations. The Electric Distribution department consists of the Supervisor and two linemen. The department maintains and upgrades existing transformers, lines and poles as needed, replaces street lights, trims trees out of power lines, installs new utility services when needed and other miscellaneous duties.

Residential Rates


Rates furnished by the City shall be paid monthly by the consumer at the City Clerk’s Office, as follows:
  • For the first 80 KWh per month, at 17.69 cents per KWh;
  • For the next 120 KWh per month, at 10.61 cents per KWh;
  • Excess over 200 KWh per month, at 9.91 cents per KWh provided that no flat rate shall be applied or allowed and the minimum monthly billing shall be $4.00 per month per meter.

Commercial Rates


Rates per meter, for commercial, industrial and institutional service furnished by the City shall be paid monthly by the consumer at the City Clerk’s Office, as follows:
  • For the first 100 KWh per month, at 19.10 cents per KWh;
  • For the next 900 KWh per month, at 12.03 cents per KWh;
  • For the next 14,000 KWh per month, at 9.91 cents per KWh;
  • For the next 25,000 KWh per month, at 8.84 cents per KWh;
  • Excess over 40,000 KWh per month, at 7.43 cents per KWh provided that no flat rate shall be applied or allowed and the minimum monthly billing shall be $4.00 per month per meter.
